During a ceremony marking the graduation of 901 Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Cadets from the 2013 Leader Development and Assessment Course on July 28 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., Campbell University student Raul Mancera, right, was one of just eight cadets from the 9th and 10th Regiments to be recognized for an individual accomplishment. A native of Morgan Hill, Calif., Mancera graduated with honors, making him one of the top overall cadets of the 9th Regiment.
Campbell’s ROTC program has long been among the nation’s best. Since 1972 the university’s ROTC program has won the prestigious MacArthur Award six times for the nation’s best unit. In 2012 alone, eight cadets in Campbell’s ROTC program placed in the Top 10 percent nationally of ROTC seniors based on order-of-merit ranking — more than any other non-senior military school. Campbell student and ROTC senior John LeBaube was ranked second in the nation individually that year.
